Case filed over wild animal killings in Sylhet

A case has been filed against two named and eight unnamed people in connection with the killing of nine wild animals at Balipara village of Fatehpur union under Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet.

Saad Uddin Ahmed, range officer of Sari Range under Sylhet division, filed the case with Jaintiapur police station under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act at around 4pm on Saturday.

Jaintiapur police station Officer-in Charge (OC) Shyamal Banik confirmed the matter.

Among the accused, two were identified as Abdul Halim, 20, Md Shahriar Ahmed, 19, said Shyamal.  

On Friday morning, locals of Balipara village killed six golden jackals, two large civets and one mongoose, and later threw the bodies in the Kapna River.

As soon as the photos of the dead animals began circulating on social media, netizens condemned the misdeed.
