A Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS) worker was killed, and another kidnapped at Rajbila union’s Tangkhali on Tuesday.
Witnesses said a group of miscreants had shot Binay Tangchanga, 36, who ran a grocery store in Tangkhali Bazar on Tuesday approximately at 10pm.
The miscreants also kidnapped Puradhan Tanchanga, 32, from Shailtan Para in nearby vicinity.
The locals said they both were associated with JSS.
The incidents may have been masterminded by a reformist group within the JSS, they suspected.
Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, told Dhaka Tribune a patrol team has rushed to the spot, after which more information can be found.
Kang Poru Marma, Rajbila UP chairman, said a tense situation prevails in the area after the two incidents.
He also said a JSS leader, Ankaching, was shot in the head and seriously injured in the same area on April 14 earlier.
A patrol team from Bangladesh Army has also been dispatched from Bandarban Sadar to the area.
