Abducted CoU student rescued by police

The abductors later contacted his classmates, demanding a ransom of Tk10,000

Police on Friday rescued a Comilla University student abducted while returning to campus after tutoring in Comilla city.

Shakil Ahmed Sobuj, from the fourth batch of CoU's law department, was kidnapped on Thursday, following which the kidnappers demanded Tk10,000 ransom.

Police detained a suspect named Nahid in this connection, said Mohinul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali model police station.

According to the police, at around 9pm, Shakil was abducted in the Bagichagaon area of the city while returning from tutoring. The abductors later contacted his classmates, demanding Tk10,000 for his release.

Upon receiving the information at around 12:30am, Kotwali police launched a rescue operation.

At approximately 2:40am, Shakil was found injured at Toa Housing in Chhotora. Police managed to detain one of the kidnappers, identified as Nahid.

After providing Shakil with primary treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital, his classmates took him back to campus at around 5:30am.

OC Mohinul Islam said: "As soon as we received the report at night, we launched an operation. With the help of technology, we were able to rescue the university student.”

“Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the incident," he added.
