Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 170,000 yaba pills worth Tk5.85 crore in different anti-drug drives across Cox's Bazar.
They were seized from Faishakhali in Palangkhali union under Ukhiya upazila, and Morpara of Meena Bazaar in Howaikang union under Teknaf upazila, in the early hours of Friday.
However, BGB has not detained anyone in connection with the incidents.
Lt Col Ali Haider Azad of Cox's Bazar 34 BGB told the Dhaka Tribune: "BGB members took position in Faishkhali, after hearing of a huge consignment of yaba pills coming from Myanmar through the Tambru canal. At one point, they intercepted a boat, whereupon the drug traders fled back to Myanmar.
"Later, BGB found 150,000 yaba pills worth Tk45,000,000 from the boat," he said. "They have been kept at the Cox's Bazar 34 BGB battalion, which will be destroyed in the presence of concerned authorities, law enforcement officials, media personnel and others."
BGB has filed a case over the incident with Ukhiya police station, he added.
Meanwhile, in a separate drive in Teknaf, BGB seized 19,500 yaba pills, worth Tk5,850,000 from a betel nut orchard in Morpara of Meena Bazaar in the Howaikang union, confirmed Teknaf 2 BGB Commander Sarker Md Mustafizur Rahman. However, nobody was detained as the drug traders fled on realizing the BGB's presence.
Mustafizur added that a case has been lodged with Teknaf police station over the matter.
