The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Dhaka district administration on Tuesday demolished 118 establishments and recovered about three acres of grabbed river lands in its third phase of joint eviction drive.
The drive to demolish illegal establishments along the Buriganga River began at about 10am and was conducted in Shahidnagar Balughat in Loharpul area and Batteryghat area in Kamrangirchar.
During the daylong drive, three two-storey buildings, 38 semi pucca houses, 35 tin shed houses and 43 thatched huts were demolished, a statement from shipping ministry says.
Earlier, in two phases, a total of 1,199 establishments were torn down on the riverbanks and 10 acres of land were recovered.
