Main accused in Rangpur public prosecutor murder case dies in prison

The main accused in Special Public Prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik murder case, has died due to illness in Rangpur Central Jail.

The deceased- Quamrul Islam died around 7am on Saturday.

Later he was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The hospital Director Dr Ajay Kumar Roy and Rangpur metropolitan police's Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC Investigation) Mokhtarul Islam confirmed the matter.

However, the correspondent could not contact the officials of Rangpur Central Jail.

Quamrul Islam's body is being kept in the morgue of Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Hospital authorities said the body will be handed over to the relatives after autopsy.

On March 29, Special Public Prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik went missing after leaving his house, according to his wife Deepa Bhowmik.

Later, his brother Sushanta Bhowmik entered a general diary with the police over his disappearance.

Police arrested Quamrul Islam, with whom Deepa had an extra-marital relationship with, as the prime suspect.

On April 4, RAB arrests Deepa, who confessed under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, that she and Quamrul both murdered Rathish and buried him in a house which was under-construction.

After the investigation of the case, the police submitted charge sheets to the court.

The case is currently under trial in Rangpur District and Sessions Judge ABM Nizamul Haque's court. Meanwhile, the Prosecution Lawyer Advocate Abdul Malek told that seven people, including the plaintiff Sushanta Bhowmik, have already completed their testimony.
