Case filed against BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin for threatening PM

A case has been filed against BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury for allegedly threatening Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with death.

Giasuddin is the younger brother of war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, who was executed on November 22, 2015.

Jamal Uddin, president of Fatikchhari upazila chapter of Bangladesh Chhatra League, filed the case on Wednesday.

Fatikchhari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

According to the case, the BNP leader threatened the prime minister during an iftar party and discussion meeting held at Fatikchhari upazila on Tuesday.

Giasuddin reportedly threatened Hasina at an iftaar program organized by his party at Fatikchhari on Tuesday, saying that “your fate will be worse than that of your father [Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman].”

The program was organized the local BNP to observe the 37th death anniversary of former president and founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman.
