One injured in gunfire allegedly by Chhatra League SUST unit vice-president

A student of the Food Engineering and Tea Technology Department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been severely injured in gunfire allegedly by a Chhatra League SUST unit vice-president.
The injured student, Abdullah Rony from Gaffargaon upazila of Mymensingh, has been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
SUST Assistant Proctor Prof Jahir Uddin Ahmed said the incident occurred at a restaurant adjacent the SUST campus at around 10pm on Tuesday.
He added that tensions were mounting between different factions of Chhatra League on the campus, and additional security forces had been deployed to prevent any untoward situations.
According to Chhatra League SUST unit sources, the shooting occurred when two factions of Chhatra League were attempting to establish their supremacy on the campus. Abdullah Rony, who was merely a bystander to the conflict at the restaurant, was caught in the crossfire.
Tariqul Islam claimed vice presidents Abu Sayed Akand, Syed Zuem and Joint General Secretary Sajedul Islam Sabuj attacked him and his followers at the restaurant, and he was currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
