Indian assistant high commissioner visits vandalised Rangpur village

Abhijit Chattopadhyay, assistant high commissioner of India in Rajshahi, visited at Thakurbari village of Rangpur sadar upazila on Monday morning where villagers attacked the Hindu-dominated village and vandalised and torched houses of the Hindus.
He went to the village around 10:12am and stayed there for several minutes, said police.
However, he refrained from speaking to journalists.
Earlier on Friday, a man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured when a mob vandalised and torched Hindu houses in Thakurbari village over a reported Facebook post by Titu Chandra.
Over the issue, around 8,000 people from nearby villages marched towards Thakurbari village, a Hindu-dominated village and vandalised and torched 8-10 houses of the Hindus.
Police on Saturday morning filed a case with Gangachhara police station against more than 2,000 people, including 25-30 named ones.
