The ban on tourist travel that began on October 17, 2022 has been imposed again in Ruma, Rowangchari and Thanchi upazilas due to the joint operation of the security forces against militant organizations and Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) in the border areas of Bandarban.
A memorandum was signed by Bandarban Deputy Commissioner (DC) Yasmin Parveen Tibriji in light of a letter issued on February 10 by Bandarban Army Headquarters.
According to the letter of the Bandarban Army Headquarters, from Tuesday, considering the safety of tourists, local and foreign tourists will not be able to travel to these three upazilas of the district until further notice.
Every year, thousands of tourists arrive in the district during the winter season, but this time due to the ban, more than 200 hotels-motels and 500 tourist guide jobs in the district have become vacant.
In this regard, Rajiv Bara, finance secretary of Bandarban Residential Hotel-Motel Owners Association, said that due to the ban, the arrival of tourists in the district will decrease again.
Members Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) has allegedly opened fire at two vehicles carrying workers constructing a road in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban.
At least two people were injured in the shooting, and four others have been missing since the incident took place on Saturday afternoon.
