HC rejects Rana’s bail plea

The High Court has rejected the bail petition of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The HC bench of Justice Nizamul Haque and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order on Thursday afternoon, Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder said.

On June 15, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against 17 people including parents of Sohel Rana, the owner of the building that collapsed on April 24 last year, killing more than 1000 people.

Earlier, the ACC did not included the name of Sohel Rana with the case as the building was owned by his father and the name of Sohel Rana was not found in any of the documented evidences.

However, later the authority included his name as they found his involvement in the case.

The building that housed at least five garment factories collapsed and killed at least 1138 people. While over a thousand people survived with injuries and many others still remain missing.
