The High Court yesterday exempted three public officials from personal appearance as they placed an affidavit which stated that an incidence of rape of an RMG worker in Mirpur was actually cooked up.
The court said if it is finally convinced that the alleged rape incident was forged, it would direct appropriate legal action against the ‘so-called’ victim and the informer of the case, said Abdul Halim, lawyer of the plaintiff.
Halim continued that the court apparently found the incident was fictitious, as the victim’s statement made before the lower court was inconsistent with that of the actual facts of the case.
Medical report prepared by Dr Shamima Haque, coordinator of the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said although the garment worker had signs of sexual intercourse, they were not proof of forceful intercourse.
In response to a writ petition lodged by Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation, a bench of the HC on July 9 summoned Dr Shamima along with Imtiaz Ahmed, deputy police commissioner of Mirpur zone, and Mirpur police station OC Md Salahuddin, and sought their explanations in the incident.
Afterwards, the court fixed September 14 for further hearing over the writ petition as it will go on vacation from from July 25 to August 30.
On July 1, an RMG worker at a Mirpur factory was reported to have been raped on the way back from her workplace.
