DGHS: Seven children die of measles, related complications in 24 hours

Seven children died from measles infection and related complications in 24 hours till 8am on Monday, with all fatalities reported from the Dhaka division, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The information was released in the directorate’s daily bulletin based on data.

According to the bulletin, two of the deceased were confirmed measles patients, while five others were children who died with measles-related symptoms. During the same period, 1,282 children were admitted to hospitals nationwide with suspected measles.

The DGHS also said 118 children have died across the country since March 15 with suspected measles. During the same period, 5,940 children were hospitalized with measles symptoms, of whom 1,099 were confirmed to have the disease.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of confirmed cases, with 311 children diagnosed so far.

In the last 24 hours, 1,282 children with measles symptoms were admitted to different hospitals across the country, including 180 confirmed cases.

Of the newly confirmed infections, 138 were reported in Dhaka division, the highest among all divisions. No new cases were detected in Mymensingh division during this period.

Division-wise data show that, after Dhaka, Barisal and Chattogram divisions recorded the second-highest number of new cases, with 10 each. Khulna reported nine cases, Sylhet six, Rangpur two, and Rajshahi five.
