Measles outbreak: Four deaths, 1170 suspected cases in 24 hours

According to the DGHS, 115 new confirmed measles cases were reported in the past 24 hours

Four more children have died with symptoms of measles in the past 24 hours in Bangladesh. However, no deaths from confirmed measles infection were recorded during this period. Since March 15, the total number of child deaths linked to measles and its symptoms has risen to 280.

In the last 24 hours, 1,170 new suspected measles cases have been identified. Since March 15, a total of 38,301 people have shown measles symptoms.

The information was disclosed in a statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, covering the period from 8am on Thursday to 8am on Friday.

According to the DGHS, 115 new confirmed measles cases were reported in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of confirmed infections since March 15 to 5,146.

Since March 15, 49 people have died from confirmed measles, while 231 deaths have been recorded among suspected measles cases.

Of the 1,170 newly identified suspected cases in the past 24 hours, 942 patients were admitted to hospital, while 893 were discharged.

Since March 15, a total of 26,100 people with measles symptoms have been hospitalized, and 22,650 have since been discharged.
