Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Director General Prof Dr Muhammad Azad Khan has urged all educational institutions in the country to strictly adhere to five health guidelines to ensure safety, amid a rise in Covid-19 cases in neighboring countries.
He voiced his request in a Facebook post on Monday night.
Notably, due to the spread of new sub-variants of Covid-19 in India and several neighboring countries, the Bangladesh government has intensified precautionary measures.
In the post, Azad said that educational institutions must prepare in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Directorate of Health Services to prevent the spread of the new sub-variants of Covid-19.
The guidelines include the following:
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds regularly to stay protected from the coronavirus.
- Avoid crowded places and wear a mask when going outside.
- Maintain at least a three-foot distance from any infected person nearby.
- Refrain from touching your eyes, mouth, or nose with unwashed hands.
- Cover the mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow during coughing or sneezing.
Recently, the Directorate General of Health Services also instructed that thermal scanners and digital thermometers be used at international entry points to check the temperature of incoming travelers.
Additionally, adequate supplies of masks, gloves, and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be ensured for healthcare workers.
The directorate advised staying home if Covid-19 symptoms appear and seeking treatment at the nearest hospital if the condition worsens.
Covid-19 was first detected in Bangladesh in early 2020, leading to multiple waves of infections and a public health crisis.
The government mandated measures such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and avoiding gatherings.
Over time, as infection rates declined, these restrictions were largely relaxed.
Recently, a slight upward trend in Covid-19 infections has been observed in the country, prompting the government to once again urge the public to follow health guidelines to ensure safety.
