Nationwide booster dose drive after updating Surokkha platform

The health authorities in Bangladesh will start administering Covid-19 booster shots to all eligible persons in the country once the vaccine registration platform Surokkha is updated, Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said.

"The ICT Division is working on the update and it will likely be done by the end of December", the minister told reporters on Tuesday.

For now, only frontline workers and people above 60 can receive a booster shot producing their vaccination card, he added.

“Policies on how we will administer booster doses have been formulated, which we will announce in a couple of days,” Maleque said.

Bangladesh started administering Covid-19 vaccine booster shots on a trial basis on Sunday.

One has to take the second dose at least six months before receiving the booster shot, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country will only administer the Pfizer Covid-19 as booster shots as it has been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), said Maleque.
