DGHS advises to get vaccine as soon as possible

The health authorities have urged the people to get the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible considering the rising the number of infections in the country.

They have also discouraged people from visiting public events, including the upcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair, without getting the vaccine and maintaining health guidelines.

During the daily bulletin on Wednesday, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) spokesperson Dr Nazmul Islam said: “It is our humble request that people who are fully vaccinated carry their vaccine card while visiting the book fair. Those who haven’t gotten the second dose, get it as soon as possible.”

He also told people not to wait for an SMS before going to vaccine centres if they were eligible for the booster dose.

Dr Nazmul Islam, also line director of the DGHS Communicable Disease Control unit, said publishers, visitors, and others associated with the book fair must be conscious of the rising number of infections.

The DGHS is emphasizing vaccination as there is no alternative right now, he added.

Covid-19 testing increased by 27% and the test positivity rate by a whopping 228% in the past week.

“It is alarming the way infection rate is increasing,” said Dr Nazmul Islam.

He reiterated the need to strictly maintain the government’s 11-point restriction on public movement.
