A mobile court in Tangail fined six people on Thursday for flouting health guidelines prescribed by the government amid the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Ishrat Jahan fined them a total of Tk2,400 for ignoring the restrictions.
Ishrat Jahan told Dhaka Tribune that the administration had taken a strict stance to enforce social distancing and health guidelines across the country. As part of government measures, the mobile court would continue such drives.
In light of the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country, the government has imposed a new set of restrictions. In a gazette notification on Monday, it asked to limit gatherings in all types of events, including social, political and religious.
Meanwhile, the country logged another 12 deaths from coronavirus and reported 3,359 fresh infections in 24 hours till 8am on Thursday.
A total of 27,920 samples were tested across the country in the meantime with a positivity rate of 12.03%.
The fresh numbers took the country’s death toll to 28,123 and the total caseload to 1,604,664.
