President asks countrymen to overcome Covid loss together

President M Abdul Hamid on Monday called upon everyone to come forward together to overcome the loss caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this while exchanging views with a cross-section of people, including people's representatives and professionals, at President Md Abdul Hamid Auditorium at Itna upazila of Kishoreganj in the evening.

The president said the deadly coronavirus disease largely affected the development of Bangladesh, like other countries in the world, but due to the courageous and time-befitting decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country's ongoing development works continued more than that of many developed countries.

Abdul Hamid highlighted the progress during the tenure of the incumbent government, especially the development of the haor region.

He urged government officials, people's representatives and all concerned to work with sincerity and devotion so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of this development.

The president said the progress of development of Bangladesh was initiated by the hand of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who also enacted reforms in each and every sector of the country.

Hamid said Bangabandhu took war-ravaged Bangladesh to a stage of development in only three and a half years. "Had the brutal killings on August 15, 1975, not occurred, Bangladesh could have gone farther much earlier."

Lawmakers Md Afzal Hossain and Rezwan Ahammad Taufiq, secretaries concerned to the president, were present at the meeting.

Earlier, the [resident visited the development activities of Itna Upazila Parishad, under-construction power station and various development activities of the upazila, including extended buildings and shelters of President Abdul Hamid Government College.

The president also visited the old Kachari house in Mithamain.
