Covid: Bangladesh logs three deaths, 198 cases in 24 hours

The health authorities in Bangladesh recorded three deaths from Covid-19 and 198 new infections in the 24 hours to Saturday morning.

The latest additions took the country’s death toll to 29,108 and the total caseload to 1,949,253.

On Friday, Bangladesh recorded five deaths and 257 coronavirus infections.

The positivity rate came down to 1.77% during the same period as 13,860 samples were tested across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 1,828 people recovered from Covid-19 in the meantime taking the total recovery to 18,59,469.

The deaths were recorded in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Barisal. All five deceased were male.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported the first zero death from the coronavirus in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
