Health minister: First dose vaccines to be given as before

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that those missing out on the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine will get their shots from the permanent vaccination centres.

The priority for the authorities would be to provide the second and the booster doses, the minister said during an emergency virtual meeting on Saturday afternoon.

He said, considering the enthusiasm of the vaccine seekers, the government has decided to extend the mass vaccination program for two more days.

“We have already administered 110 million vaccines till Friday evening. We are hoping to bring over 10 million people under the drive. So, the number would exceed 120 million,” he said.

The minister also thanked all for keeping faith in the government and the health system.

Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Khurshid Alam at the meeting said that they visited several government hospitals on Saturday and saw the enthusiasm of the people for taking the first shots.

Professor Meerjady Sabrina Flora, additional DG of DGHS earlier told reporters that they want to vaccinate every eligible person in the country.

Saturday’s vaccination efforts will continue as long as there are people eligible for inoculation at the centres, she added.
