A nationwide strict lockdown will be imposed only if the overall Covid-19 infection rate reaches 15-20%, according to the health directorate.
The technical panel on the pandemic had yet to recommend another lockdown throughout the country, Dr Robed Amin, spokesperson for the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in a press briefing on Covid-19 on Wednesday.
The DGHS was also in a state of unease over fears that the pandemic situation might go from bad to worse if the masses did not cooperate with the authorities and ignored hygiene rules.
The daily figures of the past seven days showed that infections and deaths were on the rise, noted Dr Robed Amin.
On the topic of locking down the capital, he said there would be no need to impose the curb in Dhaka if the authorities could stop patients from the nearby districts from entering the city.

However, if the rush of patients to Dhaka continued, a stricter lockdown might become essential, the DGHS official forewarned.
Stating that the second wave of the pandemic in the country had yet to be brought under control, Prof Amin said the situation might have been better if the Covid-19 infection rate was kept under the 5% mark for 2-3 weeks.
Bangladesh has been witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths for the last few days.
The country recorded 5,727 Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours between 8am on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday — the highest daily caseload since April 13 (6,028 new cases).
Eighty-five fatalities were logged during the same period — a steep rise from Tuesday’s 75 fatalities and the highest toll since April 29, when 88 people lost their lives to the infectious disease.
