Bangladesh has yet again recorded another 26 deaths for the second consecutive day.
With that, the death toll now stands at 8,597. Meanwhile, another 1,719 new infections were recorded, taking the total number of cases in the country to 560,887.
The latest figures were published by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), via press release, on Tuesday.
Of the deceased, 17 were men and nine were women. All of them were receiving treatments at different hospitals across the country at the time of their death.
Twelve of the deceased were from Dhaka division, five from Chittagong, three each from Khulna and Barisal, two from Rangpur, and one from Sylhet divisions.
Thus far, 5,601 men (75.6%) and 2,096 women (24.4%) lost their lives to the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, 1,352 patients recovered from the virus over the last 24 hours; With that, the recovery count rose to 514,479.
A total of 20,748 samples were tested at 219 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.
Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 8.29% tested positive, while the overall infection rate stands at 13.03%, the release added.
Of the total infected, 91.73% patients have recovered, while the Covid--19 death rate remains static at 1.53%.
The first three Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8, and the first death from the novel coronavirus on March 18.

Meanwhile, more than 5.8 million people registered around the country to get the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine till Tuesday afternoon, said the health directorate.
Until Monday, over 4,485,954 people have been vaccinated nationwide since January 27.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 2,674,086 lives and infected as many as 120,846,881 people across the world till Tuesday afternoon, according to worldometer.
As many as 97,476,659 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has affected 219 countries and territories across the planet.
