Fatalities from the coronavirus infection have topped 7,000-mark in Bangladesh as 34 more people died of the deadly virus in the past 24 hours.
With the latest figure, the number of total fatalities stood at 7,020, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily virus update on Saturday afternoon.
It took 270 days or almost nine months in total to surpass the 7,000 body count while 232 days were taken to top 6,000. It took 38 days or five weeks to reach 7,000 from 6,000, which in turn, took 43 days - over eight weeks - from 5,000-mark.
It took 34 days or a month for Bangladesh to cross the first 100 death threshold; 69 days to 500; 85 days or almost three months for 1,000; 110 days to 2,000; and 133 days or around three-and-a-half months to 3,000.
The first death from Covid-19 was officially reported on March 18.
Scenario of weekly deaths
The first three official Covid-19 cases were reported in this country on March 8.
Death count was in single digits between week 1 and week 4 and hit double digits between weeks 5-9.
The body count faced an upward trend in maximum weeks from the 10th week till 40th week.

The fatality count was below 200 deaths between the 30th and 37th week, which again started rising from week 38 (November 22-28).
And, at present, 213 deaths were recorded this week alone (week 40).

Also, the highest positive cases (25,701) and death toll (308) were reported in the 17th and 18th week respectively, around the end of June.
Saturday’s count
Meanwhile, the country logged more than 489,000 coronavirus cases with 1,329 people testing positive in a span of 24 hours.
With this, a total of 489,178 positive cases were reported while 417,503 recovered (85.35%).
Of the 34 deceased till Saturday – 23 men and 11 women – 24 were from Dhaka division, four from Chittagong, two each from Sylhet and Rangpur, one each from Barisal and Mymensingh divisions.
Among the victims, 32 died at different hospitals and two others at home.

So far, 5,362 men (76.38%) and 1,658 women (23.62%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.44%.
About 12,630 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours till Saturday afternoon.
A total of 2,956,882 tests were carried out till now in 140 centres in the country.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,603,054 lives and infected 71,516,809 people across the world till Saturday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 49,718,879 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 218 countries and territories across the planet.
