Bangladesh has registered 17 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Thursday morning. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 6,021 in the country.
The country also logged a total of 416,006 coronavirus cases with 1,842 people testing positive over the same period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Thursday.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.45%.
Among the 17 deaths, 14 are male and three female, the press release said, adding, one is in his 40s, two are in their 50s, while 14 are above 60 years.
According to the division-wise data, 15 deaths took place in Dhaka division and rests are in other divisions.
Among the total 6,021 deaths, 3,146 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 1,189 in Chittagong division, 373 in Rajshahi division, 473 in Khulna division, 201 in Barisal division, 250 in Sylhet division, 264 in Rangpur division, and 125 in Mymensingh division, according to the press release.
The health authorities said 1,891 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 333,588 patients – 80.19% – have made full recovery across the country.
As many as 15,225 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 114 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 12.10%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 17.30%.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,232,328 lives and infected 48,525,162 people across the world till Thursday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 34,767,153 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
