Coronavirus: Sudden rise in global daily cases

The world encountered a sudden rise in global coronavirus daily cases yesterday on July 16.

According to Worldometer,  2,48,913 new coronavirus cases in the world were recorded on Thursday, July 16, 2020, taking the total number of Covid-19 cases worldwide to 13,937,798.

That is 13,977 higher than on the previous day, when it was 2,34,936, and again 29,580 Covid positive cases higher than the day before, when it was 2,19,333.

A week ago, on July 9, the number of new cases worldwide was 2,24,165 and a week before that on July 2, it was 2,09,748.

The number of active cases now stands at 5,073,159.

Of the active cases 5,017,074 (99%) were designated as mild, while the remaining 59,934 (1%) were marked serious or critical.

At the same time, 8,277,784 people from across the world have recovered fully from the infection or were discharged from treatment, which was 93% of cases with satisfactory outcomes.

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 592,687 lives since its discovery in December 2019 – which was 7% of cases with unfortunate  outcomes.

In January, China effectively shut down Wuhan and placed its 11 million residents in effective quarantine after the novel coronavirus infection turned into a major outbreak.

The virus is thought to have emerged late last year in a Wuhan market illegally trading wildlife. It can cause pneumonia and respiratory diseases, among other health conditions, and spreads between people in droplets from coughs and sneezes.

Till now, coronavirus or Covid-19 has affected 213 countries and territories around the world and two international cruise ships.
