Coronavirus: A steady rise in the number of global daily deaths

The world saw an increase in the number of new daily deaths from the coronavirus for three consecutive days.

The daily death toll around the world from the coronavirus rose to 5,741 on Thursday, taking the total number of deaths to 5,91,962. That was 11 deaths lower than the number of deaths on the previous day, which was 5,752.

A week ago, on July 9, the number of new deaths worldwide was 5,423 and a week before that on July 2, it was 5,165. 

According to Worldometers, 592,687 individuals have died so far from the Covid-19 outbreak as of Friday, July 17, 2020. There are currently 13,654,445 confirmed cases in 213 countries and regions. 

Till now, the number of active cases stands at 5,073,159.

Of the active cases 5,017,074 (99%) were identified to be in mild condition while the rest 59,934 (1%) have been marked as serious or critical.

At the same time, 8,277,784 people from across the world have recovered fully from the infection or were discharged from treatment, that is 93% of cases had a favourable outcome.

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 592,687 lives since its discovery in December 2019 which is 7% of all recorded cases worldwide, so far.

In January, China effectively shut down Wuhan and placed its 11 million residents in effective quarantine after the novel coronavirus infection turned into an outbreak.

The virus is thought to have emerged late last year in a Wuhan market illegally trading wildlife. It can cause pneumonia and respiratory diseases, among other health conditions, and spreads between people in droplets from coughs and sneezes.

Till now, the coronavirus or Covid-19 has affected 213 countries and territories around the world and two international cruise ships.
