A joint director of Bangladesh Bank (BB) has died of Covid-19.
Sheikh Farid Uddin, 38. died at the Holy Family Hospital in Dhaka on Monday morning, officials of the central bank confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.
Sheikh Farid Uddin was employed at the Bangladesh Bank Training Academy in Mirpur.
On June 12, he was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.
On June 3, Bangladesh Bank Officers’ Welfare Council, Dhaka (BBOWCD) claimed that around 50 officials and employees of Bangladesh Bank got infected with the coronavirus, while around another 100 staff showed symptoms of Covid-19.
Till now, more than 20 officials of commercial banks have died of Covid-19 and around 1,000 bank officials have got infected with the virus, according to the people of this industry.
On Monday, Bangladesh crossed the mark of 1,500 deaths as 38 more people have died of the coronavirus infection in a 24-hour span. With the latest figure, the number of total fatalities rose to 1,502.
The country also crossed the 115,000 mark in the confirmed cases of Covid-19 -- with 3,480 people testing positive in the same time period.
