The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has deemed it necessary to impose complete lockdown across larger areas based on the number of infected to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
In its ninth meeting on Wednesday, the committee made five recommendations, including reserving a separate hospital for health workers, as per a statement issued by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
The committee said the healthcare system would be disrupted if health workers do not get proper treatment after contracting the coronavirus.
They recommended procuring high-flow oxygen therapy devices and other necessary equipment for all hospitals.
The government has already decided to treat Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients in separate areas in all hospitals based on the suggestion of the committee.
The committee asked the government to implement the decision in hospitals where it has not been implemented yet. Moreover, they said treatment facilities for Covid-19 patients need to be increased.
The government has increased the number of daily tests. Nevertheless, the committee thinks the quality of the tests needs to be improved and it has to be ensured that the test results come back as early as possible.
Furthermore, rather than waiting for the results, measures should be taken to ensure Covid-19 suspected patients’ isolation or treatment.
