Coronavirus: Bangladesh gets 4 more dedicated Covid-19 hospitals

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has named four more hospitals dedicated for Covid-19 treatment.

The number of coronavirus cases is on the surge creating a necessity for expansion of dedicated hospital facilities for treating patients infected with the virus.

The hospitals are – Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, Mugda General Hospital, Shaheed Shuhrawardy Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur, according to an order signed by the Health Ministry’s Deputy Secretary Marufur Rashid Khan issued on Thursday.

The order said general patients who are currently being treated at those four hospitals will be transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital to continue their treatment.

It also urged the hospitals concerned to take necessary initiatives to vacate the hospitals and take other initiatives needed.

Till now, nine dedicated hospitals in Dhaka are treating Covid-19 patients from all over the country. Also 80 hospitals outside the capital have been identified to be used for admitting and treating coronavirus patients.

As of Thursday,the coronavirus pandemic has taken the lives of 60 people and infected at least 1,572 in Bangladesh.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has so far killed more than 142,000 people, including those in Bangladesh, around the world.
