A high-level investigation committee formed over the fire incident at the Secretariat will send some evidence outside the country for examination if it deems it necessary. The preliminary report of the investigation committee will be submitted to the chief advisor today.
The Chief Advisor's Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder revealed this information at a press briefing in front of the State Guest House Jamuna yesterday. The Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and other officials of the Press Wing were present at the time.
Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumder said that the head of the investigation committee formed into the fire incident at the Secretariat told them yesterday that they will hand over the initial report to the Chief Advisor today. As part of the investigation, they have collected necessary evidence. Some of this evidence has been tested in the country.
Responding to a question on whether the fire was an accident or sabotage, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said: "The members of the investigation committee will inform in detail about this when the time comes.”
In response to another question, he said, initially, the investigation committee was given a time limit of three days to submit the report. Within the specified time-frame, they will submit the initial report. After that, they will discuss with the chief advisor and experts and determine the time-frame for a thorough investigation.
On a different note, Shafiqul Alam said that the interim government has no relation with initiative of the proclamation of July uprising by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on December 31.
He said that the government wants to see it as a 'private initiative' (non-governmental initiative).
In this context, this Deputy Press Secretary to the chief adviser, said: "The matter is not clear to us until the announcement is made. It is not possible for us to say anything until the announcement is made."
