Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment AHM Shafiquzzaman has said that the overall situation in the Readymade Garments (RMG) sector, including the prevailing dissatisfaction among garment workers, is being monitored, and he hopes that the situation will calm down shortly.
“We’re all monitoring the situation regarding the garment workers’ dissatisfaction,” he told journalists in response to a media query following a function at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.
He was attending a reception ceremony for the champion and runner-up debaters in a debate competition focused on the "Prevention of Child Labor."
When asked about the workers' road blockade in the Ashulia area, the Labour and Employment Secretary said: "We are addressing everything. We, including the home affairs adviser, are monitoring the overall law and order situation there.”
He said that the government is committed to preserving the country’s economy by ensuring necessary production and aims to resolve the issues through discussions between factory owners and workers.
Regarding the child labor issue, he said that the government is working to reduce child labour to 'zero' level. "We are engaging in dialogue to this end," he added.
