CEC warns strict action against NID forgery

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has warned to take strict action against National Identity Card forgery.

The CEC directed the officials to act cautiously in this regard, as some resort to fraud while obtaining NID.

The CEC made this remark in a discussion meeting on the occasion of “Voter Day” at Nirbachan Bhaban, Agargaon on Saturday.

Addressing the officers and employees of the Election Commission, he said: “I will urge our colleagues to work with caution. If someone obtains NID illegally to conduct fraudulent activities, especially to gain land, none of us should be involved.

“You can get confused, make mistakes, but if someone consciously commits a crime, then we will have zero tolerance and will take legal actions against him,” he added.

The CEC said: “Voters' Day should have one major objective - to energize the voters so that they can increasingly freely express their views through the ballot. They can elect the candidate of their choice, form the government of their choice.”

Election Commissioners along with the Election Commission Secretary were present in the event.
