The US embassy, in collaboration with local Bangladeshi partners, has inaugurated a new American Corner in Sylhet.
This joint initiative aims to strengthen ties between the local community and the United States, foster connections among people to people, and deepen the partnership between the two nations.
The activities at the American space reflect a broad spectrum of American values, ideals, culture, and perspectives.
Stephen F Ibelli, Public Affairs Counselor of US embassy Dhaka and Scott Hartmann Director, Public Engagement along with local dignitaries inaugurated the centre.
At the ceremony, Stephen F Ibelli said that the opening of the Sylhet-American Corner symbolizes the strong partnership between the US embassy and local organizations in Bangladesh.
"This initiative highlights our shared commitment to promoting education and cultural exchange. This newly established center will serve as a valuable resource for those eager to learn and bring positive change to their communities," he added.
The counselor expressed pride in inaugurating the American Corner in Sylhet. “This center will enhance connections with US educational and cultural resources, creating lasting intercultural experiences for students and educators,” he said.
He added: “This American space will strengthen ties with the local youth, educators, and young changemakers who dedicate themselves to contributing positively to their communities.”
American Corners are part of a global network of cultural and information centers managed in collaboration with local institutions.
These centers are dedicated to providing safe, free, and open access to information resources.
They promote opportunities for studying in the US, scholarships, support for English language teachers and students, connections with alumni of US exchange programs, and activities to enhance cultural understanding between the US and Bangladesh.
