Envoy: False news about Palestine President being spread in Bangladesh

Palestine Ambassador in Dhaka Yousef SY Ramadan on Sunday expressed his “disappointment” over a local media report related to President Mahmoud Abbas’ telephonic conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro.

“We are very disappointed as they (one television channel) are spreading false news related to the Palestinian president, accusing him of being on the same tune as the Israeli prime minister and the US president,” the ambassador told Dhaka Tribune.

“By spreading lies and fake news, they are either directly or indirectly disturbing the unity among the Palestinian people and working in the same line with the enemy of humanity -the Israeli apartheid state,” he said.

“We urge all responsible news outlets to be very careful when they depend on western or yellow media. We have said that from day one and now we repeat again.”

President Abbas received Sunday night a telephone call from Nicolás Maduro, during which they discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.

President Abbas stressed during the call the need to immediately stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, provide them with protection and allow urgent humanitarian corridors to be opened to the Gaza Strip and provide people there with medical supplies, water, electricity, and fuel, according to the news provided by the ambassador.

President Abbas renewed his complete rejection of the displacement of our people from the Gaza Strip, because “that would be a second Nakba (catastrophe) for our people,” he stressed.

President Abbas affirmed his rejection of killing civilians on both sides and called for the release of civilians, prisoners and detainees on both sides.

He reaffirmed the rejection of violence, commitment to international legitimacy and signed agreements, peaceful popular resistance and political action as a path to reaching our national goal, stressing the necessity of seeking a political solution that ends the occupation.

President Abbas also stressed that the policies, programs and decisions of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) are what represent the Palestinian people as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and not the policies of any other organization.
