Bangladesh has denounced the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and Palestine and deplored the resultant loss of innocent civilian lives and injury of victims, calling for a ceasefire.
The foreign ministry in a statement on Sunday said Bangladesh underlined that escalation of conflicts and violence benefitted no party.
"We urge both Israelis and Palestinians to exercise maximum restraint and call for an immediate ceasefire to avoid further loss of innocent lives on both sides."
Bangladesh said it held that living under Israeli occupation and forced settlements in Palestinian territory would not bring peace to the region.
Therefore, Dhaka it supported a two-state solution, Palestine and Israel, living side by side as independent states free of occupation following UN Resolutions No 242 and 338, which could bring lasting peace and stability in the region, the ministry said.
"Bangladesh also urges all parties concerned to refrain from excessive and indiscriminate use of force in the conflict and reiterates that only dialogue and diplomacy could lead to a lasting solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and calls upon all parties to work towards this end."
Israel battered Gaza on Sunday, a day after suffering its bloodiest attack in decades when Hamas fighters rampaged through Israeli towns, killing hundreds and abducting an unknown number of others, threatening a major new war in the Middle East.
