Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has appealed for the burial of expatriate Bangladeshis who died from Covid-19 in their country of death, as repatriation of the bodies under current circumstances is extremely difficult.
“I call for the burial of our people who died from Covid-19 abroad in the places of their deaths. In the prevailing situation, it is extremely difficult to repatriate bodies as flights from most of the countries are barred,” he told Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.
“Besides, the cost is three times higher than at normal times and others are also put at risk by repatriation,” he added.
The foreign minister also said citizens of Europe living in Bangladesh may leave the country through chartered flights.
“We have informed the heads of missions of European countries in Dhaka that they can send their people to the respective countries using chartered flights. We will grant permission for that,” he said.
