BGB-BSF conference begins in Delhi

The five-day conference of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) formally began at the BSF headquarters in New Delhi.

An 11-member Bangladesh delegation headed by BGB Director General Major General Md Shafeenul Islam joined the formal session of the conference while BSF Director General Shri Vivek Kumar Johri led a 19-member Indian delegation, said a BGB press release in Dhaka on Thursday. 

The topics of discussions were on killings, injuring or opening fire on innocent Bangladeshi citizens in the border areas and finding ways of stopping such activities, preventing smuggling of firearms and drugs, including yaba, phensidyl and alcohol, into Bangladesh from India and implementing the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) for border management and resolving border related problems soon, reports BSS.

Prevention of trespassing and constructing roads by Bangladesh along the Bangladesh-India border also came up for discussion.

After the formal session of the conference, the BGB director general paid a courtesy call on India’s Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah.

Marking the conference, a ‘Moitri Cup Tournament’ will be arranged between the volleyball teams of BGB and BSF at Chhawla camp stadium on December 27.

The five-day conference will end on December 29 through the signing of ‘Joint Record of Discussions (JRD)’, said a BGB press release in Dhaka.
