Hero Alom takes U-turn, now says will contest in national polls

Popular YouTuber Ashraful Hossen Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom, on Sunday, said he will participate in the upcoming 12th national polls, just three days after he announced his decision to withdraw his candidacy.

"Many people claimed that I am withdrawing my candidature for money. So, I have decided to run in the national polls to show them I am not for sale.” Hero Alom said.

He made the comments during a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

He said: "In our country, no election is conducted fairly. It's unjust, and only your Hero Alom can show proof of this. Therefore, I refuse to withdraw. I will show the lack of fairness in the electoral process."

The social media star urged the general people to stay with him to see how the election is conducted.

Hero Alom said: “Having someone present is essential to demonstrate how accurate the election process is, and I am that person. However, I may withdraw from the election at any time."

On Wednesday, Hero Alom announced his decision to withdraw his candidacy on his verified Facebook page.

On November 30, Hero Alom confirmed that he had submitted his nomination form to participate in the 12th national parliamentary election from Bogra-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram).

Hero Alom previously ran for MP from the Bogra-4 constituency as an independent candidate in the 11th national election but was defeated.

Subsequently, BNP MPs resigned from Bogra-4 and Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituencies, leading to vacant seats. Hero Alom participated in the by-elections to these constituencies but faced defeat again, alleging rigging.
