Hundreds of nomination aspirants and their followers gathered at the Awami League’s (AL) Bangabandhu Avenue central office on Tuesday, on the last day of nomination submission, ahead of the national polls scheduled for January 7.
The entire Bangabandhu Avenue was seen crowded with thousands of ruling party men chanting different slogans with different posters in their hands.
There were long queues on the ground floor of the office building while many were finding it difficult to reach the booths to submit their forms.
Office staffs were heard announcing various guidelines to the supporters outside to maintain order.
Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua in a written statement said that forms must be submitted without creating any gathering in the office area.
However, no such crowd was seen in the form collection booths on Tuesday.
Some 733 people on Tuesday collected nomination forms of the ruling AL on Monday to contest the 12th national elections. Among them, 24 aspirants collected forms online while others collected the forms from the office. A total of 3019 forms were sold in the three days starting from Saturday.
AL President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the sale of nomination papers.
Later, Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, a member of the AL advisory council, first collected the party nomination form on behalf of AL President Sheikh Hasina for Gopalganj-3 seat.
