Bangladesh cricket superstar Shakib Al Hasan has collected nomination forms for three constituencies to contest the upcoming 12th national election with an Awami League ticket.
Shakib collected the form for Dhaka-10 from the Awami League office on Saturday morning, Chhatra League former general secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam who was at the nomination form selling booth of Dhaka Division for Awami League confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.
He said Shakib’s family members also collected the forms for Magura-1 and Magura-2 constituencies from the Khulna division booth.
There were rumours of Shakib participating in the 11th national election as well. However, he did not participate in the end.
Former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, however, did participate in the 11th national election. He served as the member of the parliament for Narail-2 constituency.
As many as 1,064 people have collected nomination papers for the Awami League on the first day on Saturday.
The party has collected Tk5.32 crore from the process, Barrister Biplab Barua, the ruling Awami League's office secretary confirmed the matter.
The party will sell the nomination form till November 21. Forms can be collected and submitted from the central office of Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue every day from 10am-4pm.
Candidates can submit the nomination form by November 30.
When collecting the application form, the candidate must provide a photocopy of their National Identity Card along with three passport-sized photographs. Additionally, the photocopy should clearly indicate the candidate's mobile number and current organizational identity.

The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the next January 7. Apart from this, the deadline for filing nominations has been fixed for November 30. Scrutiny will be conducted between December 1-4. December 17 is the last day for the withdrawal of candidature.
