Incumbent Barisal City Corporation (BCC) Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, also the secretary of Awami League city unit, on Monday did not come to cast his vote in Barisal city polls.
Bangladesh Bank Joint Director Anwar Hossain Dipu, also the presiding officer of Government Barisal College Centre of Ward No 9 of BCC polls held on Monday, confirmed this information.
According to the party sources, Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah did not come from Dhaka to Barisal as he did not get nomination for the mayoral election for the second time from the party.
His own uncle Abul Khair Abdullah (Khokan Serniabat) got the party nomination.
Despite being out of Barisal for a long time, Sadiq did not give charge to any panel-mayor as acting mayor.
There was a tense situation among the supporters of Sadiq in barisal as he did not get the party's nomination for the mayoral post.
However, Sadiq Abdullah's father Abul Hasanat Abdullah urged everyone to work for his younger brother Khokon Serniabat.
Meanwhile, Ruling Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate Abul Khair Abdullah alias Khokon Serniabat has unofficially won in the Barisal City Corporation elections.
For this reason, most of the city residents thought that on the election day, at least Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah would come to Barisal and cast his vote for his uncle.
