According to reports from law enforcement and intelligence agencies, 184 of 292 polling centres in the district’s two constituencies have been classified as “important” by the Election Commission on Saturday.
Sources at the district’s returning officer’s office said that 109 polling centres of 180 in Barguna 1 constituency have been marked important.
This includes 68 in Barguna Sadar, 21 in Amtali, and 20 in Taltali upazila.
In Barguna 2 constituency, 75 centres were classified in a similar manner; including 33 in Patharghata, 27 in Betagi, and 15 in Bamna.
District election office sources said that both constituencies, together, comprise 682,768 voters; among which 345,324 are male and 337,444 female.
Returning officer of the district Dilip Kumar Hawlader said that all election-related equipment has been distributed to all the centres, where a 15-member law enforcement team will constantly be vigilant throughout voting.
Superintendent of Barguna Police Maruf Hasan said that every security measure has been taken to ensure that people may cast their votes without fear.
