Ashraful Hossain Alam, more popularly known as Hero Alom has said he will roar like a lion in the upcoming general election.
Alom said this while speaking about his electoral symbol “Lion” on Wednesday. He is contesting from the Bogra 4 constituency which comprises of the Kahaloo and Nandigram upazilas.
He said: “Hero Alom always gets viral. ‘Lion’ is the people’s symbol, that’s why I want to roar like a lion at the election race with my electoral symbol.”
He will start his election campaign from Kahaloo on Thursday and on Friday he will hold in public rally in Nandigram.
The self-made actor and model will contest the polls as an independent candidate though he wanted to run from Jatiya Party but was not given the nomination. He later submitted his nomination form as an independent candidate.
Alom went to the office of the Returning Officer and Bogra Deputy Commissioner (DC) Faiyez Ahamed on Wednesday to collect his electoral symbol. He was not allocated his symbol as the DC was in Dhaka, but the DC assured him that he will get his desired “Lion” symbol.
Alom also submitted the High Court’s directives to the DC office and Senior Election Official Mahbub Alam Shah’s office.
Mahbub said: “Alom will be allocated the electoral symbol on Thursday.” In the meantime he was told to print posters using the “Lion” symbol.
Alom is contesting in the polls against AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD, Inu); Mosharraf Hossain, BNP; Al Haj Md Idris Ali, Islami Andolan; Kazi MA Kashem; Tarikat Federation; Ayub Ali National People’s Party and Jibon Rahman of Bangladesh Nationalist Front.
HC paves way for Hero Alom to contest polls
Earlier on Monday, the High Court bench of Justices Sheikh Hassan Arif and Razik-Al-Jalil ordered the Election Commission to accept Alom’s nomination papers, clearing the way for him to contest the election.
Alom later said: “All conspiracies against me have failed."
“Although the provision of having 1% signatures of voters as an independent candidate was met, the Bogra 4Returning Officer cancelled his nomination,” he alleged.
He thanked the media, voters of his constituency, and all his supporters for their endless support in his struggle.
On December 2, Hero Alom’s nomination paper was rejected because he had failed to collect the signatures of 1% of Bogra 4 constituency’s voters.
The 11th general election will take place on December 30.
