Food Minister Afroza Khanam Rita on Sunday said the government is giving due importance to ensuring that no child is deprived of education due to financial hardship.
“Government assistance and various welfare programs will continue in the future to ensure educational opportunities for children from poor and disadvantaged families,” she said.
She made the remarks while addressing a function to distribute school uniforms among students at Betila Government Primary School as the chief guest.
The minister said ensuring quality education and necessary facilities for students is essential to building an educated, humane and discrimination-free society. The present government is working to establish a social and humane state, she added.
As part of these efforts, various programs are being implemented to encourage students in their studies, provide educational materials and facilitate their education, the minister said.
Afroza said improvements in the quality of education would accelerate the country’s progress. Today’s students will play an important role in running the country in the future. Therefore, creating a quality educational environment and ensuring conditions conducive to the development of their intellect and creativity are important responsibilities of the state, she added.
The food minister urged the students to attend school regularly and study attentively.
She also called upon teachers to teach with sincerity and responsibility while helping develop the students’ moral and humanitarian values.
Deputy Commissioner of the district Nazmun Ara Sultana chaired the program. Police Super Mohammad Sarwar Alam, relevant district and upazila-level officials, local leaders, teachers, guardians and students were, among others, present.
Later, the Betila Union BNP and its affiliated and associate organizations organized a mass reception for the food minister on the same school ground. Syed Maksudul Hasan Chowdhury presided over the reception.
