University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized its Freshers’ Orientation for Fall 2026 on September 10, welcoming a new cohort of students to the university community.
The program was attended by Mr Mitchel Lee, Chargé d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka, as the chief guest. In his address, he congratulated the newly admitted students and encouraged them to make the most of their university experience by learning beyond the classroom, developing critical thinking, embracing diversity and preparing themselves to contribute meaningfully to society.
ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, also welcomed the freshers and urged them to remain curious, responsible, creative and engaged throughout their academic journey.
He emphasized that university life is not only about earning a degree but also about developing knowledge, skills, values and social responsibility.
The program began with the ULAB Theme Song, performed by the ULAB Sangskriti Sangsad, creating a celebratory atmosphere for the new students.
A special segment of the orientation featured the introduction and distribution of seed boxes, led by Professor Shamsad Mortuza. Each newly admitted student received a seed box containing Bakul flower seeds as a symbol of personal growth and transformation during their university journey.
As the students nurture the seeds and watch the plants grow, they will have the opportunity to share their growth stories through a dedicated page on the ULAB website.
Representing the new students, Ms Marvia Fatema Bhumi shared her reflections and aspirations as she began her journey at ULAB.
The program also featured an experience-sharing session by Ms Sekh Shahnuma Sharmin, Manager, Brand Strategy & Digital, BYD Bangladesh, and a ULAB alumna. She shared insights on university life, professional skills development, and preparing for future career opportunities.
The orientation was attended by Professor Jude W R Genilo, PhD, Pro Vice Chancellor, ULAB; Professor Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees and Treasurer, ULAB; Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam (Retd), Registrar, ULAB; as well as deans of different schools and departments, faculty members, officials, alumni, and a large number of newly admitted students.
The program concluded with a special band performance by Emon Chowdhury & Bengal Symphony, presented by Coke Studio Bangla, adding an energetic finale to the Freshers’ Orientation.
