Wajhatul Islam Wasti, a representative of The Daily Janakantha, and Tanvir Ibne Mobarak, a representative of The Daily Bhorer Kagoj, have been elected President and General Secretary, respectively, of the Jahangirnagar University Press Club for the 2025-26 term.
The results were announced by Assistant Election Commissioner Professor Dr Sultana Akter at 1:30pm on Tuesday at the university's Teacher-Student Centre.
Voting took place from 9:30am to 12:00pm at the Press Club office.
In the election, Mahmudul Hasan (Barta24) was elected Vice President, Rahat Chowdhury (Daily Protidiner Sangbad) as Joint Secretary, Osman Sardar (Daily Jay Jay Din) as Treasurer, SM Tawhid (Bangla Tribune) as Office Secretary and Shahriar Imon (Daily Khola Kagoj) as Library and Publication Secretary.
Ahsan Habib (The Asian Age) and Robiul Islam (Dhaka Times 24) were elected as Executive Members.
Speaking after the announcement, Assistant Election Commissioner Associate Professor Mizanur Rahman said: "The election of the Jahangirnagar University Press Club has been held in a festive atmosphere. I hope the newly elected committee and its members will uphold ethical journalism and represent Jahangirnagar University on both national and international platforms."
Assistant Election Commissioner Professor Md Sultana Akter, Election Commission Secretary Hasib Sohel and leaders of various social and political organizations of the university were present during the announcement.
