15 injured as Chhatra League attacks protesting students at BRUR in Rangpur

At least 15 students have been injured in attacks carried out by leaders and activists of Chhatra League at Begum Rokeya University (BRUR), Rangpur.

Chhatra League leaders and activists took a position on the campus from 3pm. They carried out the attacks on the students in phases.

Besides, BRUR, district, and city units Chhatra League staged a demonstration by blocking the road in front of the university as part of a counter program. 

However, even though the anti-quota protesters called for a rally in front of the university, none of their leaders were seen there amid attacks of Chhatra League.

The general students called for a rally at the same place at 4pm demanding to reform quota.

A tense situation has been witnessed on the campus since the morning.

At around 3pm, Chhatra League leaders and activists took the position in front of the main gate of the university. The Chhatra League activists of Carmichael College also joined with them.

At around 4pm, the leaders and activists of the Chhatra League held several protest marches in that area and they also took control of the entire university area.

At around 4:30pm, they blocked the road at the intersection of the park and started protesting there.

Later, when the police came and requested them to move from a part of the road to allow the movement of vehicles, the Chhatra League leaders and workers started protesting on a part of the road.

Meanwhile, at around 5:15pm, Chhatra League activists chased away a section of the protesting students who attempted to gather in the area.

 At least 15 students were injured in several rounds of attacks by Chhatra League leaders and activists.

Among them, a student tried to save himself by jumping into a nearby pond.

After that, none of the protesting students were seen on the campus and its surroundings.

Mamun, a student who is protesting demanding quota reform, said that Chhatra League leaders and activists have established a reign of terror by taking control of the entire area including the university.
