UIU, CMED Health Ltd signs MoU for industry-academia research collaboration

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between United International University (UIU) and CMED Health Ltd for industry-academia research collaboration on the campus in Dhaka on Monday.

Lokman Hossain Mia, executive chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), was present as the chief guest in the ceremony, according to a press release. 

Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, chairman and managing director, United Group, was present as the special guest. 

The Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of UIU Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia presided over the ceremony.

Prof Dr M Rezwan Khan, executive director of IAR and former VC of UIU and Dr Farhana Sarker, managing director, CMED Health Ltd signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. 

While Prof Dr Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, advisor to the BoT and Ex-VC, UIU, Dr Md Zulfiqur Rahman, registrar, UIU, along with the dean of different schools, head of the departments, faculty members, high officials and invited guests were present in the ceremony. 

The MoU will promote collective research and high-quality publications in reputable journals, as well as facilitate cooperative research partnership opportunities between CMED and UIU. The researchers from academia and business will benefit from this industry-academia collaboration in the area of research, innovation and commercialization.

With active financial support from the United Group, the Institute for Advance Research (IAR) of United International University has pioneered the provision of Research and Development (R&D) funds for the researchers to promote quality research activities in research areas and has spent more than Tk5 crore since 2019. 

Additionally, UIU sponsored research funds and partnered with other National and International organizations. 

Currently, IAR distributes research funds twice a year and has more than 75 active research projects.
