Covid: Govt not thinking about closing schools, colleges

The government is not considering closing schools and colleges right now, Education Minister Dipu Moni has said.

Her statement came on Wednesday in light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

“Coronavirus infections are on the rise. We are discussing when we will be able to start vaccinating students under 12,” Dipu Moni said.

The authorities would take a decision on shutting educational institutions considering the overall pandemic situation, the minister added.

Bangladesh has been witnessing a sudden increase in the spread of the coronavirus.

The country recorded a daily infection rate of 16.74% on Tuesday, up from Monday’s 16.51%.

The health authorities also logged seven deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours to Tuesday morning, five fewer than the previous day's 12 - the highest single-day toll in four months.
